Data2Laws studies the invariant mechanisms and phases behind the growth (“massification”) of large-scale online collectives, such as Wikipedia or open-source software communities: how they transition between phases of low and high activity, how individual contributors organize themselves into collective action, and how these collective structures scale sustainably.

The project brings together an interdisciplinary team spanning network science, applied management, sociology, and statistical physics, with IMT Atlantique, Université du Littoral Côte d’Opale, the Centre de Physique Théorique, and Université de Rouen Normandie as partners.

CONGRATS is the team’s contribution to the PEPR eNSEMBLE program (part of France 2030), funding two PhD positions and one research internship on the analysis and dynamics of large-scale online collectives, in support of the work carried out under the ANR Data2Laws project.

Carnot TSN — eXplainable AnalytIcs for EDUcation (XAI-EDU)

The XAI-EDU project aims to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques to produce Learning Analytics (LA) that will support learners and teachers in changing their practices, based in particular on a dimension that was then little exploited: the influence of social interactions.

To address this issue, the project proposed a mixed numerical and symbolic approach (based on business knowledge) to make decision-making tools explainable and actionable.

ANR PIL — Pluralisme de l'information en ligne

The goal of this project is to analyze and evaluate the socio-economic effects of digital transformations on information quality and pluralism (QPI) in the media universe.

The written and audiovisual media are an essential link in political pluralism. Their digitisation and the explosion of online informational content are a priori conducive to the formation of plural opinions, which guarantee the proper functioning of democracy.
However, this pluralism of content and sources is not in itself synonymous with information quality.
Digital technology, through economic models, informational practices and media sector regulation, could redefine the concept of QPI through the proliferation of modes of production, selection and circulation of low quality information (fakes, poor content, massive information recovery…).

In a rapidly changing environment, the PIL project proposed to:

redefine the concept of quality and pluralism through an original multidisciplinary approach,
develop innovative measurement methods for QPI,
evaluate current instruments for regulating pluralism and make recommendations.

ARED — Allocation de recherche doctorale (Région Bretagne)

The Allocation de Recherche Doctorale (ARED) is Région Bretagne’s regional scheme for co-funding doctoral positions, alongside the host institution and laboratory. It funded Piriziwè Kobina’s PhD on new 3D collaborative graph visualizations for exploring relations between communities.

A French government grant awarded via the Embassy of France in Kenya, funding Michael Kamau Wahiu’s PhD on understanding learning analytics techniques using network community detection.
